A dental implant is a small screw that is placed in the jawbone to replace a missing tooth root. These screws are typically made of titanium, titanium alloys, or zirconia. Implants can support crowns, bridges or dentures.
Are you missing one or more of your teeth? Are you tired of dealing with dentures, partials, or bridges? If so, you are likely a candidate for dental implants.
Candidates for dental implants need to be in good oral and overall health, with healthy gum tissues. Sufficient bone density in the jaw is also required to support the implant. If you suffer bone loss, that does not necessarily exclude you as an implant candidate. Advances in diagnostics and bone reconstruction, including bone grafting, have made it so that most patients can receive implants successfully.
Some lifestyle habits, such as tobacco use or chronic conditions, including diabetes or leukemia, may interfere with healing after implant surgery.
The first thing you’ll do is meet with Dr. Nitardy for the initial consultation. First, she’ll do a dental exam, full set of digital X-rays, digital impressions and 3D CT Scan. The results of this initial consultation will determine if you’re a dental implant candidate or you may need preparatory procedure first. This may include bone graft, sinus lift, tooth extractions or periodontal treatment. Next, our dentists develop a personalized treatment plan that includes the procedures steps, cost and timeframe.
Same day surgery procedure can be completed in a few hours, depending on the number of implants required with local anesthesia (iv sedation is also available). After placed the implant, the healing and osseointegration phase begins it can take four to six months. You will be fitted with a temporary prosthesis, aftercare instructions and prescription medications.
Place abutments is usually done only after the implants have fused with the jawbone. The type of abutment you need may depend on your dental needs. A dental implant abutment is a tiny piece of zirconia, titanium and some time gold that connects the dental implant to the final restoration (crown, bridges or denture).
